Picture a scene from 'The Ring' and picture yourself in it. There are a couple of jump-out-of-your-seat moments in this game that the other's supposedly have, but not like this. But one of the best parts of Water's Edge? The sheer spook factor. AND, having multiple locations didn't hurt the game, but made it more open to possibilities.

No other game has all that the Nancy Drew series offers. I play these games for the fun, but also because I always learn something from them-and I truly appreciate how much time and effort the designers put into each one (some more than others, or course), using facts and history. Even the necessary skill challenges learning traditional Japanese culture was a wonderful revelation.

The robotic cat? How freaking cool to learn its commands? The juxtoposition of ancient and ultra-modern is what makes Japan so special, the this game highlights it all. Some of the puzzles (like the sudoku) did not relate directly to the game it's true, but I ended up really enjoying them, and went back again and again just for fun. From the Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn), to the ultra-modern subway system and convention center, to the night market pachinko parlours and then a modern city apartment-it was extremely true to form, and highlights some of my favorite things from this incredible country. First off, it was one of the most immersive of all the HeR Interactive series. The only reason I took away one star is because they have some pretty hard, frustrating puzzles near the beginning of the game that could have ruined the entire game for us if we weren't able to figure them out.1 Comment | Was this review helpful to you?YesNo2 of 2 people found the following review helpful5.0 out of 5 stars Love Japanese culture?
